Ellie Pool:
The Mind Behind League of Lies
A Writer Who Questions Power, Challenges Assumptions, and Explores the Human Mind
Ellie Pool is a Canadian author whose interest in history, human psychology, and political influence inspired her debut novel, League of Lies. Born and raised on the Canadian prairies, she grew up with a strong appreciation for faith, family, and individual freedom. These values later shaped the questions she explored in her writing.
Her curiosity about human behaviour began early. Her Dutch mother’s experiences during the Second World War exposed Ellie to stories of fear, suffering, and obedience under oppressive authority. Those accounts stayed with her, leading her to question why ordinary people sometimes accept harmful systems and what causes societies to surrender their freedoms.
Over the years, Ellie devoted more than two decades to studying history, psychology, and contemporary events. She became particularly interested in the relationship between political power, public opinion, and human behaviour. Her research encouraged her to explore how people form beliefs, respond to authority, and distinguish truth from carefully constructed narratives.
Writing a novel had been a personal ambition since she was fourteen. Although her professional career and family responsibilities delayed that dream, she never abandoned it. In 2021, she finally began turning her years of research and ideas into the story that would become League of Lies.
Through her debut novel, Ellie combines political suspense, personal conflict, and questions about the nature of freedom. Her fiction draws on her interpretation of historical and contemporary events, inviting readers to examine familiar assumptions and consider perspectives they may not have encountered before.
Today, Ellie enjoys a quieter life in Saskatchewan, Canada, with her husband and their two cats, Thor and Loki. Outside writing, she enjoys gardening and watching baseball.
For Ellie, League of Lies fulfills a promise she made to her younger self and her longstanding desire to explore the complexities of human nature through storytelling.
